Lexington and Other Eccentric Stuff

Day one of our trip has begun. We took off at approximately 0500 and got to our first destination, THE PINK ELEPHANT at 0830. It was a tacky pink elephant in Huntington, WV, so we made it tackier by standing in our pajamas.

We munched on baby bananas on the way, well, except the banana hater, Mat. He didn't care for one.

We decided to tally the cows, but when that got overwhelming, due to the country farms we were constantly passing, we decided to tally Gretchen's pukes from car sickness (this one happened after Dramamine)

Next stop, the Kentucky Horse Farm.

You will enjoy:

The texture of the sand that the horses run on. It is sand mixed with fiber and then treated with a chemical to make it squishy, but not sticky. I love this sand. I would actually let my kids play in this sand, which they happen to sell it to families, but a special kind that is safe from chemicals.

The hall of champions where you can learn all about retired horses and their insane winnings for just being a horse:

The Parade of Breeds, a cheesy yet informative song and dance of horses from there time:

My favorite, the pony racing with Becket. A very rare find and not all are chosen. It was fun to watch them play:

Next stop the mortar and pestal pharmacy. It was just odd and unique to see so we took a picture for you to see:

Also the abandoned castle of Versailles. Well, at least that is what a little bird told us (mat's phone). Turns out a wealthy guy with the last name Martin, took his wife to France and she fell in love with the castle of Versailles so he built it for her. How ramamtic. Sadly, they later divorced and his heart was too broken to sell it, so it remains abandoned to this day. He won't sell it:

Finally, thank you Thompsons for a lovely stay and enjoyable conversation.

Day two tomorrow.

Mic, you have a gift. A real talent. You can find the most amazingly random things to see! I've planned a fun date night for this weekend. I wish I had thought of it earlier so you two could join the competition. You'll have to watch the blog for details.

I hope you're having fun!
