Day three started out a little rough. We ran down to Nashville to see the grand ole opry, but much to our dismay, they were still cleaning up from flood damage. Go figure? They said it would be another 6mths for clean up. Instead, the security guys decided to hug, and we took their picture. What a long day for those men.
Then we realized we had left our cold foods in Abby's fridge, so we had to turn around and retrieve it. Luckily she was still there. Thank goodness and Abby, I'm still waiting for my pancake recipe.
After a lot of slow breathing, we were back on the road headed towards St. Louis.
On our drive, Gretchen was teaching Micah her map reading skills with her invented marker pointer. Gretchen: “Now Micah, is Missouri a state or a city?” Micah: “ City!” Gretchen: “No, it’s a state. Is Kentucky (pronounced Can-tucky) a city or state?” Micah: “City!” and repeat.
We stopped and had a picnic in Land Between the Lakes. Very beautiful and lots of birds to watch (i.e. Gretchen observing them)
Micah FREAKED at the fly landing on her sandwich. What a baby!
Once we got to St. Louis, we stayed in a Marriott that was built inside an old train station. It felt like you were walking into an antique 1940's movie. The kids were so excited about staying in a hotel that a pillow fight broke loose.
We toured the Cathedral Basilica. It's a beautiful church that once hosted the Pope John Paul II. It's decorated ceiling is made up of over 41 million mosaic tiles of 8,000 different shades. It was started in the early 1900's and took 75 years to build. Oh how my neck hurts just thinking about putting up all those tiles.
Next was the famous arch
Then TedDrewes frozen custard
Then to the hotel where are passed out kids were valeted to our room.
So long St. Louis. (Cara, you were lucky to grow up in a place like this!)

Wow! What cool adventures you are having. I absolutely loath driving long distances in the car with myself let alone with all the kids but you are making look like so much fun that I may want to try it some day. :0)
Your Missouriness is making me smile. Glad you hit Ted Drewes and the riverfront--did you get to the floating mcdonalds?! The Big Foot truck brings me happy memories--if we went certain places, we were always on the lookout for bigfoot, seeing who could see it first! :)
How are the kids doing through all of your stopping and exploring? What troopers you've got!
